The Leander Trust Library at the Leander Club in Henley-on-Thames is proud to present one of its own to you in Andy Trotman, editor of Leander Club, the First 200 Years, to tell us about how the book came about and his editorial take on it. He’ll be joined by some of the key players, all in aid of the Leander Trust. A finger buffet will be served in the beautiful clubhouse.
The talk is on 18th January, from 7pm-10pm.
THE FIRST 200 YEARS 1818 – 2018 was shortlisted for the Daily Telegraph Sports Book Awards in 2019.
Leander’s Bicentenary Book – shortlisted as one of the outstanding illustrated books of the year.
The editor, Andy Trotman will take us through this wonderfully illustrated and informative book which has taken many hundreds of hours of painstaking research and work and is a wonderful tribute to the club past and present.
A previous book, The Brilliants, recorded the club’s history up to 1997. We now have one which brings us up to date. To quote the Editor, Andy Trotman, “You will meet many inspirational men and women who have contributed to the club and to British rowing over 200 years. Many are superb athletes – from near-mythical figures of the early days through to the more familiar names of heroes and heroines of recent Olympiads and World Championships”
The Leander Trust is a registered charity (No. 284631) to advance the education of young people and their physical education by providing facilities – including grant awards – to enable and encourage rowing and sculling; and to help by providing facilities for recreation for those who need such facilities because of their youth, social or economic circumstances. A short presentation will be held to illustrate the benefit of the Trust.
