After the success of 25 Leander athletes in Paris, it was now the turn of the next generation to show what they can do at the first British Rowing Trials of the new Olympiad. A total of 50 athletes travelled to Boston.
Plenty of athletes finished on Saturday with personal bests on their 2K ergo’s cementing a great start to the season.
On Sunday both men and women took to the water for the 5K water trial. In division 1, both Sarah MacKay and Katie Mole took 4th and 5h respectively leading the way for non-GBRT Caversham based athletes.
In the men’s division leading athletes, both sweep and sculling, raced in the single sculls. The club placed seven athletes in the top 10, with Cedol Dafydd taking 2nd place as the leading Leander male athlete. William McClean was the fastest U21 sculler coming 9th overall.
In the pairs event Mathew Fielding and Marlow Depeza came 2nd overall.
Thank you to the organisers for a great weekend of racing and to Boston Rowing Club for their wonderful hospitality.
Next up, the Fours Head on Sunday 24 November.
