Last weekend saw Leander Club take 40 athletes from the men and women’s squads up to Boston, Lincolnshire for GBRT February Trials. With the first round of trials back in November being cancelled due to weather conditions, the athletes were eager to show what they could do.
The women were up first, with Leander crews claiming 1st place in both the W2- and the W1x, winning both categories by significant margins – congratulations to Amelia Standing and Juliette Perry (W2-), and Kathryn Mole racing as Leander/Birmingham (W1x) and a encouraging 6th for Cam Nyland.
In the afternoon it was the men’s turn where we claimed another 1st place in the M2- of Daniel Graham and Douwe De Graaf. In the M1x Leander sculler Rory Harris took 2nd place (missing out by a narrow margin of a second) and, proving the squad’s strength in numbers, 6 of the M1x scullers placed within the top 7 and 12 in the top 20. Stephen Hughes was the fastest U23.
After a successful weekend, both squads now turn their attentions to bigger crew boats as we gear up for our fixtures against Oxford and Cambridge in their preparations for the Boat Race.
We would like to thank Boston Rowing Club as always for being so accommodating and all their volunteers for all their hard work, we are very grateful to you all.
