We’re delighted to say that our new Member Service and Operations Manager, Will Kuhl, is something of an expert when it comes to wine.
Will has carefully selected wine pairings to accompany our next Fine Dining Evening on Wednesday 31 August. These events are always very popular and there are just a handful of tickets left.
Read on for the full menu plus wine tasting notes!
Lombard Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs – 100% Chardonnay produced wholly from grapes grown in one of the 17 Champagne Grand Cru Villages. Bright, bone dry with hint of minerality on the finish. A proper welcome to Leander’s fine dining night!
Beetroot Gazpacho – Long Barn Pinot Noir 2020 – Silky smooth with soft tannins and complimentary acidity, this is a dry but fruit forward wine, which will make the beetroot shine.
Chicken Consomme and Tortellini – Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Mileu des Miles 2020. A delicate dish paired with a delicate unoaked Chardonnay. Crisp and clean with a suggested whisper of minerality and a lovely long finish.
Yakitori Tuna Fleurie ‘Cote de Poncie ’ 2019 Domaine Patrick TRANCHAN – Another delicate dish which should pair beautifully with cru status Beaujolais region Gamay grape. A typical Fleurie, this wine offers a silky mouthfeel, soft tannins, and notes of ripe red fruit.
Lamb Saddle – Chianti Classico DOCG Reserva ‘Augostini Petri’ 2018 Castello Vicchiomaggio – 100% Sangiovese, this is a wine with a rich palate and approachable tannins and packs the biggest punch of the nights offering. A great compliment to the saddle of lamb.
Cheesecake brownie – Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 2016. Puttonyos are a Hungarian scale of 3-6, measuring the level of residual sugar in a wine. Typically correlated also to quality, the higher the number of Puttonyos, the better the wine is. This Tokaji is a proper desert wine, its sweetness will match perfectly with the cheesecake and ice cream. With an expressive nose of peaches, honey and orange peel, this wine has a bright acidity, a sleek silken mouthfeel and an impressively long finish.
Blue Cheese Tart – Taylors 10 year old Tawny Port – Delicate and smooth, this is a fine Port with a palate of rich mellow fruit and raisins.
The evening starts at 7pm for a 7.30pm seating time.
Tickets cost £80, plus an additional £60 for the wine pairings if required. Please book by emailing events@leander.co.uk or call us on 01491 575782.
