Multiple gold medal winner Steve Williams will be talking about his Everest expedition.
“A high altitude training camp like no other!
Climbing Mount Everest begins at the equivalent altitude of GB Rowing’s Silvretta training camp, at one of the most dangerous air strips in the world, before a two month campaign to ascend a further four vertical miles up into thin air.
It’s a journey, not of morning monitoring, massage tables and big breakfasts but one of crevasses, avalanches, frostbite and body bags.
If you succeed in reaching the summit, where there is a third as much oxygen as there is in Henley – you are only at the halfway marker in the race.”
Steve will share his experiences from Mount Everest, and his two years of preparation before, and how these challenged everything he had learnt and developed from 20 years of rowing in a boat.
