Selected athletes from all over the country were invited to take part in today’s GB closed assessment race at Caversham Lake. Invites were sent out to athletes who performed well enough at the first GB November trials in Boston, Lincolnshire.
Leander Club had an impressive 51 athletes invited to race in single sculls and pairs over the 2000-metre course twice.
The first events up were the Men’s and Women’s scullers where Leander had ten men and five women scullers invited to race. Leander Club’s Tom Barras and Vicky Thornley both produced strong performances to come out on top.
The club-based athletes racing were Seb Devereux (16), Adam Neil (20th) and Alice Baatz (10th)
In the second division, it was the turn of the Men’s and Women’s pairs. Leander has 16 men and 17 women’s sweep racing.
Leander’s Tom Jeffery rowing in a composite came out on top in the Men’s and Rowan Mckellar also racing in a composite produced the fastest time out of the Women’s pairs.
The club-based athletes racing were George Rossiter and Charles Elwes (5th), Cam Buchan and James Stanhope (10th), Katherine Douglass and Anastasia Posner (6th), Susie Dear and Natasha Harris-White (9th) and Chloe Brew and Lauren Irwin (11th)
